Regionalism in the Eastern Europe (15/03/2018 - 16/03/2018)


Maxim Shmelev obtained a Bachelor degree in Commerce from MGIMO-University in Moscow, Russia, and an LL.M. in International Economic Law and Policy from the University of Barcelona. Both his bachelor and master theses concentrated on the law of the European Union, the WTO and the Eurasian economic integration.

Maxim joined the Secretariat of the Commission of the EurAsEC Customs Union shortly after completing his Master in 2011. In 2012, he started working at the Eurasian Economic Commission as trade remedy investigator. In this context, Maxim has been involved in anti-dumping and safeguard cases conducted by the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), acted as delegate at WTO trade remedy committee meetings, and has been part of the EAEU team in FTA negotiations.

In 2016 Maxim joined the Rules Division of the WTO Secretariat where he currently works as Economic Affairs Officer.

Maxim teaches Eurasian Law and Economic Integration at MGIMO-University in Moscow and the University of Barcelona.
