Thomas Obersteiner



Thomas Obersteiner holds a law degree from the University of Vienna (2009) and obtained two degrees, one in Economic Science and one in Business Administration from Vienna University of Economics and Business (2010). He attended a summer school program on American Law at Dickinson School of Law at PennState University (2007) and studied at McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas (2008) as a BBA exchange student. Besides his participation in the IELPO LL.M. program, he conducts research for his doctoral thesis in law at the University of Vienna.

His academic work is focused on the law of competition and international investment and on issues of development economics.

While studying in Vienna, Thomas was actively engaged in academic organisations, e.g. the UniManagementClub and Transparency International. He regularly published articles on international economic development in the foreign policy magazine Global View.

Thomas gained legal job experience through internships at several law firms in Austria. After high school he served one year for a child protection NPO. Moreover, he worked nine month full time as a judge-assistant and law clerk for the Higher Regional Court in Vienna (2010). At the moment he is working for the Barcelona office of Baker&McKenzie.

He speaks German, English and moderate Spanish and Italian.
