Yanjie Li specialized in WTO documents and laws translation at the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade. There he studied both at the Foreign Language School and the WTO School. Before that, he was an outstanding undergraduate English major and had been awarded first-prize scholarship at the Three Gorges University.
From October 2008 to November 2009, he was selected to do a research program with professors on the subject of Business English Papers in mainland China. In 2009, he joined the project of translating held by the Commerce Department of China. Later on, he translated the WTO Chair Program Application of SIFT. In the summer of 2009, he joined the 2009 Summer School for Postgraduates Majoring in WTO Affairs which was mainly taught by officials from the WTO Secretariat.
During 2009 and 2010, he worked as a teacher both in a local college and in SIFT. In 2010, he was honored to work for the Shanghai Expo. In his spare time, he was invited to be an interpreter for several exhibitions in Shanghai. He has also worked for a firm manufacturing highly purified water equipment and was responsible for its export market.
