Alexandra Malasonoka was born in a Russian family in Latvia. She participated in the political life of her country and had a variety of meetings and debates with the politicians and diplomats both in Riga (Latvia) and Strasbourg (France). Her interest in international relations, economics and politics determined her choice of the Faculty of International Economic Relations in one of the leading universities in Russia, and she began her academic career by obtaining a Bachelor of Economics with Command of Foreign Languages degree (2009) from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
During her studies, Alexandra was chosen among the top students of the University to participate in the UNCTAD Virtual Institute study tour (Geneva, Switzerland). It was then that she realized that she wanted to work in a multinational structure like the WTO. She enrolled in the IELPO Program because it combines both economics and law will help her to achieve this goal.
Apart from her studies, Alexandra leads active political life, conducts research and has publications concerning economic and educational matters, which are published in Latvian and Russian mass media and evoke a wide public response. She is the author of the Expert's column in the major Latvian Internet portal in the Russian Language http://rus.delfi.lv
Since September 2007, Alexandra is the Chairperson of the NGO "Association of Russian Culture, Education and Knowledge "ARKONA". In June 2009, she took part in the Elections to the European Parliament of the party "For Human Rights in United Latvia" list, which gained the third place in the country.
Apart from Russian, Alexandra is fluent in Latvian and English. She also speaks German and French.
