Ozlem Canbeldek Akin graduated from the Faculty of Law at Ankara University - an institution that ranks among the top Law Schools in Turkey. Following her graduation from college, Mrs. Canbeldek began her one-year legal internship in a law bureau, Alatas & Yuksel Law Office in Ankara, where she gained considerable experience in commercial law.
After her internship, she completed the "Legal Studies in European & Commercial Law" program at the Bournemouth International Business School (BBSI), in England, which lasted for 6 months.
After her UK experience, she returned to her hometown, Izmir, Turkey, and completed the "Masters' Program in Economic Law" at Dokuz Eylul University with the dissertation on “Developing Counties and the WTO Dispute Settlement System”.
Meanwhile, she started working in a small-sized family owned law firm (Canbeldek Law Office) in Izmir, which is primarily specialized on 1) Commercial Law, 2) Competition Law and 3) Intellectual Property Law. As a part of her work, she drafted legal briefs and petitions to be submitted to the court, and participated to court litigation.
Mrs. Canbeldek then was accepted to the Master of Laws in International Economic Law and Policy (IELPO LL.M.) degree at the University of Barcelona. In IELPO she had the chance to gain extensive knowledge on the WTO and investment law from distinguished professors from all over the world.
After having completed IELPO, she enrolled to the PhD program on private international law at University of Galatasaray, which ranks as the top law school in Turkey. Mrs. Canbeldek is now writing her PhD thesis is on the “Doctrine of Lis Pendens in International Litigation and Arbitration”.
In addition to PhD studies, now more then 5 years has been working in a trade consultancy firm based in Istanbul, namely, Trade Resources Company. In TRC, she has specialized in anti-dumping and safeguard investigations.
She is currently based in New York and is a visiting scholar at Columbia University Law School.
