Elín Hrefna Ólafsdóttir



Elín Hrefna was born in Reykjavík, Iceland. She obtained a Bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Iceland in 2011 and a Master´s degree in law from the same university in 2012. Upon completion of her Master´s degree, she went on to pass the Icelandic Bar Exam in 2013.  

During her studies, Elín was an assistant teacher at her university in a course called Legal Theory, Statutory Interpretation and Brief Overview of Iceland Legal History. She competed in a moot court held by the University of Iceland and was a member of the team that won the competition.

Alongside her studies, Elín also worked part-time. She worked as an employee in the capital control surveillance unit at the Central bank of Iceland in the years 2010-2012 processing applications for exemption from the prohibitions provisionally set on capital movement. Thereafter she shifted to a private law firm in Reykjavík. Elín has been working at this firm since and in 2015 she was made partner at the firm.

Elín´s main areas of practice have been in property law, corporate law and litigation. She has also experience in criminal law both as a defense attorney and guardianship ad litem.

Elín decided to join the IELPO program to enhance her knowledge of international economic law and international trade and development law.
