Saweria is a Kenyan lawyer. She studied her undergraduate in law at Kenyatta University (Nairobi), where she was awarded a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) Degree in 2014. In the same year, she completed her Accounting studies and exams and is now eligible for CPA certification. In 2015 she enrolled for her Post-graduate Diploma in Law at the Kenya School of Law and successfully took her Bar exams. She is fluent in English and Swahili languages.
She appreciates the role of proper financial and economic policies as a tool which developing countries can use to improve their standing on the global scene. Further, she understands the importance of proper representation in treaty negotiations. It is for these reasons that she decided to pursue a career in international economic law.
Specifically, her interest in the IELPO programme was triggered during her participation in the ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO Law (2015/2016), where her team won the Best Respondent Written Memorial Award at the Final Oral Round in Geneva, Switzerland, after which she was awarded a partial scholarship to undertake her studies in the programme. She is positive that the IELPO will help her deepen her understanding of international trade law and acquire the skills necessary to elevate her country in the global standing.
