Tigist Mehabie Mulualem was born in Ethiopia. She obtained her law degree from Haramaya University in 2009.
Upon completion of her studies, she worked for one year as an Assistant Legal Expert and Drafter at the Federal Justice and Legal Systems Research Institute in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Between 2011 and 2012 she worked on a similar position for the Ministry of Justice, Ethiopia and participated in the drafting committee reviewing Ethiopian’s Criminal Procedure Code. Since 2012 Tigist worked as a Public Prosecutor and Senior Public Prosecutor for Ethiopia’s Revenue and Customs Authority standing before the Federal First Instance, High Court and Supreme Court including the Supreme Court’s Cassation Bench of Ethiopia.
As a senior Prosecutor, Tigist directly worked on matters governing various trade, tax and customs issues. Her interest to pursue a postgraduate study in international economic law and policy and hence her decision to join IELPO thus emanates from an interest that she has developed while working for Ethiopia’s Customs and Revenues Authority. Considering Ethiopia’s ongoing accession negotiation, she is confident that joining IELPO will fulfill her aspiration of contributing to her country’s economic development by filling critical professional gaps that exist in the area of international economic law and policy.
