Daria has started her academic career at St. Petersburg State University after having finished her exchange program at the Episcopal High School of Jacksonville, Fl.
While studying in order to obtain her BA with honours, major in Linguistics Spanish, French and minor in Economics, Daria developed a great interest in International Economics. Since the beginning of the junior year (2008), Ms. Shatskova has become a part of St. Petersburg International Forum organising team providing administrative support and translation for the participants. In 2009 she worked for Global Energy Prize communicating with the laureates and international awards committee.
After having acquired some experience, Daria joined University of Barcelona, MA in International Economics, an interdisciplinary program focused on trade, international relations and jurisprudence as well as development issues. During the summer of 2010, Ms. Shatskova completed internship in Nestlé «Rossiya» in the Department of Finance.
During the 2nd year of the Masters’ Degree, Daria was awarded a scholarship of Coimbra Group to study a semester in the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of High International and Development Studies. Ms. Shatskova was inspired by the famous lawyers, economists and policy makers of different International Organisations in Geneva who taught excellent and very cognitive courses of her syllabus, inter alia, the WTO Law, Trade Policy and Economic Analysis in International Organisation.
In order to finish her MA in Barcelona, Daria has conducted research on European-Russian Energy Relations, Global Imbalances and participated in the Moot Court of the WTO case DS398 «China - Natural Resources» as defendant of China, using in practice the GATT of 1947, 1994, and relevant reports of Panels and Appellate Body.
Once all her studies were successfully finished, Daria joined International Trade Centre, a joint agency of the UNCTAD and WTO.
Being part of the Division Country Programme, Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, Ms. Shatskova has provided an extensive research in the area of the implementation of the development projects in the region, its openness to trade and the role of Trade Promotion Organisations, their contribution to development and the implementation of international norms, standards and agreements. Participation in numerous conferences gave her a better understanding of the UN system.
As a very active person, Ms. Shatskova was elected as interns’ president in the ITC and improved not only her knowledge in World Economics and Trade Law, but also in communication, team-building, event and administrative organisation.
Daria decided to join IELPO program to get a better understanding of International Law, especially related to the WTO quasi-judicial system, its treaties, agreements and exceptions.
Being a Russian native speaker, Ms. Shatskova is fluent in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and has an intermediate knowledge of Catalan and Galician.
