Miriam Mejias Guerrero was born in Barcelona (Spain) in 1986. Miriam was graduated in Law 2004-2008 at the Pompeu Fabra University. During the course of her studies, she focused mainly on Commercial Law and International Law.
While Miriam was still a law student, she was an active member of the Students Association for the United Nations and she participated in the 2008 Catalonia Model United Nations, Security Council representing Vietnam; the 2008 London International Model United Nations, United Nations Human Rights Council representing Brazil; the 2007 Catalonia Model United Nations, Security Council representing Italy; the 2007 Harvard National Model United Nations, Disarmament and International Security Committee representing Algeria; and the 2006 Catalonia Model United Nations, Security Council representing USA, among other academic activities in the framework of international relations, international law and diplomacy.
As from May 2004 until June 2005, Miriam was an intern at Gesem 96, S.L. carrying out law and cases analysis, representation and defense at Spanish Courts and Agencies, and assisting on Criminal, Civil and Commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution methods.
As from September 2007 until January 2008, Miriam did a Human Rights internship at the Pompeu Fabra University, dealing with Human Rights regulation, organizations and proceedings, with case analysis and submittal of multiple papers and presentations.
As from November 2007 until June 2008, Miriam did a Courts internship at multiple Barcelona Courts, by analyzing cases and giving support to Judges and Public Prosecutors, as well as preparing for litigation under the guardianship of Judges and Public Prosecutors and assisting Prosecutors at Courts and in Jury proceedings.
After obtaining her law degree, as from September 2008 until February 2011, Miriam worked as an attorney at the Corporate and International Department in Garrigues, Attorneys and Tax Consultants, SLP, one of the most prestigious worldwide law firms, working in teamwork on both national and international projects. During her professional career, Miriam enrolled in different courses related to International Trade and Law, Commercial and Corporate Law, and she actively participated in the preparation of various national and international seminars, lectures and publication of articles for the Union Internationale des Avocats and the American BAR Association, among other worldwide advocacy organizations.
While working at the above-referred law firm, Miriam studied a Master Executive in Business Law 2008-2010 conducted by the Fundación de Estudios Garrigues in collaboration with the Faculty of Law of Harvard University. Moreover, she participated in the Course of International Business Expansion of the Barcelona BAR Association. In addition to the above, Miriam was always enrolled in several courses and events of the United Nations, evidencing her deep concern about the Human Rights and other humanitarian affairs.
With a view to deepen her knowledge of international trade law and become a highly skilled international legal practitioner, Miriam decided to join IELPO LLM. For this purpose, she was granted a scholarship from Fundación Carolina.
Miriam is a Spanish and Catalan native speaker, she is fluent in English and she has basic knowledge of French.
